How to write a motivational story?

You have to connect to people's core values to motivate them. While everyone has his or her own set of core values, it is very difficult unless you relate to some universal values everyone recognizes. For example, the care for a child is something everyone on earth can recognize and sympathize with. So, if you start with a story about a caring mother for her young child and tie this story to the important things you want your audience to convey, then you have a high chance of succeeding in motivating your audience.

  1. The first step is to define who your audience is. What is their current state? What are they struggling with right now? What are some universal values they all share?
  2. The second step is to define what you want to accomplish with your story. What are the important values you want your audience to adopt?
  3. The third step is to identify the path from current values to wished values.
  4. The fourth step finally, is to design your story using universal values.

Let me give you an example …

Let’s assume that you want to convince your audience to buy a certain shampoo product:

1. Define your audience: women between 30 and 50 who want to let their hair shine more. Universal values: child care.

2. Define your outcome: you want these women to take more care of their hair. Important values: “hair care” and “looking good”.

3. Path:

  • from: ignorant about hair care
  • to: “care is important”
  • to: “hair care” is important
  • to: “looking good” is important

4. Design your story:

  • Tell a story about a mother struggling to care for her child because she has three jobs and too little time and money.
  • Show that how bad your situation is, it remains always important to care for your child
  • As it is important to care for yourself.
  • Make the bridge toward hair care by saying that like your health you also can’t ignore how you look.
  • So, use this shampoo to take care of your hair and look good too

Instead of giving special preference, they all are treated equally and are given opportunities on the basis of talent. That would be the true sense of equality. The reservation system favours inequality rather than abolishing it.
